Off-duty NYPD sergeant accused of DWI on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An NYPD sergeant was arrested on Staten Island Wednesday and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to police.

Julia Griffin, 47, was taken into custody around 9:15 p.m. within the confines of the 122nd Precinct, the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information wrote in a statement.

Griffin was off-duty when the arrest occurred, according to the NYPD. The 122nd Precinct covers the East Shore of Staten Island.

A police spokesperson was unable to provide any further details about what led to the arrest.

Griffin was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher, aggravated driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by alcohol, according to police.

Attorney information for Griffin was not immediately available.

According to police records, Griffin first joined the police force in 2007 and was promoted to sergeant in 2017. She is currently assigned to the NYPD’s Brooklyn Court section.

Previously, Griffin was assigned to the 121st Precinct on Staten Island, having been honored at a Police Appreciation Day ceremony in New Dorp in 2019.

Griffin is a resident of Oakwood, according to public records.
