Charles Cioffi, an actor whose career spanned four decades and includes appearances in films such as “Shaft” and hit TV shows like “The X-Files,” has died at the age of 90.
An online obituary said Cioffi, who lived in Marina del Rey, California, died May 22. No cause of death was given.
Born Oct. 31, 1935, in New York City, Cioffi was known for playing hard-nosed police officers and also criminals. His first appearance in a major film was as Lt. Vic Androzzi “Shaft” in 1971.
He portrayed a killer stalking Jane Fonda in the 1971 film “Klute.” In 1983, he appeared with Tom Cruise as his blue-collar widower father in “All the Right Moves.”
His many roles in TV shows included “The Streets of San Francisco,” “Kojak,” “Little House on the Prairie,” “St. Elsewhere,” “Law & Order,” “L.A. Law” and “NYPD Blue.”
