STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Police arrested a man in connection with a slashing in New Brighton early Sunday morning.
Juan Carlos Riquelme Vargas, 28, of Fillmore Street in New Brighton was taken into custody after a domestic dispute led to an alleged slashing that left a 30-year-old man hospitalized.
The incident occurred at around 1:20 a.m. Sunday inside a residence at 180 Fillmore St., near Lafayette Avenue.
Vargas was arrested around 15 minutes later, around 1:35 a.m., according to police.
A pair of scissors was used to slash the victim, according to a source familiar with the investigation, and police said the victim was slashed once on the shoulder.
He was transported to Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton, in stable condition.
Police say that Vargas and the victim are related.
Vargas was charged with felony assault and misdemeanor assault, according to an NYPD spokesperson.
