Did Splinter put them up to this?
A crew of oddballs were filmed emerging from a Brooklyn sewer hole early Friday morning in a strange scene that left New Yorkers questioning their motive.
The NYPD has since launched an investigation into the gross stunt that was captured in shocking footage obtained by The Flatbush Scoop.
The video shows one person appearing to lift a manhole cover from McDonald Avenue in Gravesend before stashing it on the curb between parked cars.
Things quickly took a bizarre turn when somebody emerged from the sewer with a flashlight in hand – and then another, and another, and another appeared until seven people were milling about the roadway.
Some appeared to be wearing waders and boots, and they began stripping their apparently filthy clothes off right there on the sidewalk and piling their stuff into a trio of waiting cars.
The clip cut off from there – but the bizarre incident prompted the cops to send investigators to the neighborhood to check out the scene.
Footage from the investigation, also obtained by The Flatbush Scoop, showed cops pulling one of their fellow Finest – dressed in a masked respirator and brown-stained white coveralls — out of the ground after apparently searching the sewer.
No arrests have been made, police said.
X users were quick to crack jokes about the ordeal.
“Did any of them have…..turtle shells….on their backs?” one X user commented.
“Just the Ghostbusters checking out the slime,” another wrote.
