A suspect was arrested Wednesday morning for punching an NYPD school crossing guard during an unprovoked attack at a Bronx intersection.
Anthony Andrus, 35, was nabbed at his home three blocks from the crime scene by the NYPD Warrants Squad just hours after police released surveillance images of the suspect.
The 46-year-old victim was at her post at the rain-swept corner of Gerard Ave. and E. 167th St. in Highbridge when a man in a black North Face puffer jacket stormed up to her about 8:15 a.m. March 5, cops said.
He punched her in the chest without saying a word before running off, cops said.
Medics treated the victim at the scene after she called 911. She took herself to a local hospital for further treatment a few hours later, cops said.
Police recovered surveillance footage of the suspect, his face partially obscured by his hood, near the scene.
Following the attack, cops were able to track his movements on surveillance cameras back to his apartment building. Once cops identified him, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Andrus was charged with assault on a peace officer, officials said. His arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court was pending.
