Disgraced NYPD officer Matthew Lambert, 33, had sex with a woman he arrested in his police car. He resigned from the force after the misconduct allegations emerged
A police officer has admitted having sex with a woman he arrested in his police car after showing her pictures of his manhood.
Matthew Lambert, 33, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of misconduct and receipt of unlawful gratuities after he also sent inappropriate messages to two women.
The former NYPD police detective resigned from the force back in December 2025 after the misconduct allegations surfaced.
As well as having car sex with a woman he arrested in May 2024, Lambert also sent numerous inappropriate messages to victims of crimes during his time in the force. Lambert joined the police back in 2014.
Prosecutors said after arresting the woman, Lambert was seen walking out of the police station with her after he showed her a pic of his penis. Lambert later texted the woman more nudes before the pair had sex inside his police car.
He then texted her “You’re so cool. Thanks for hanging out.” The woman was forced to block him after Lambert kept reaching out for two months, prosecutors said.
At the hearing District Attorney Alvin Bragg said: “In addition to sending extremely inappropriate text messages to victims while he was investigating their cases, he abused his power to engage in a sexual encounter with a woman he had arrested just hours earlier.”
Lambert pleaded guilty to sending creepy messages to three people who had been victims of a crime. On March 19, 2024 Lambert texted a theft victim: “Celebration drinks when this is over?” He added: “If you say now, I’m still gonna work hard on your case, I promise.”
He also messaged an assault victim between March 28, 2024 through May 14, 2024, writing: “You’re absolutely beautiful.” He also messaged her: “I was shocked when I met you. I mean, no disrespect to you and your relationship. I’m saying this in a respectful way, if that’s even possible.”
District Attorney Alvin Bragg said: “This defendant’s disturbing conduct is unacceptable for a member of law enforcement.”
The DA added: “In addition to sending extremely inappropriate text messages to victims while he was investigating their cases, he abused his power to engage in a sexual encounter with a woman he had arrested just hours earlier.”
Lambert was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to complete counselling and 100 hours of community service.
